A spokesperson for B&Q has said that Brits are starting to make “more intensive use” of their homes and beginning to embark on ambitious, and often expensive, projects. These include loft conversions and adding conservatories as well as smaller changes such as knocking down walls or DIY shelving.
This is not only due to the property market however, but the population’s changing lifestyle, with more people entertaining in their home and therefore wanting them to look more attractive.
The spokesman said: “Loft, garage and basement conversions, extensions, conservatories and the garden being used as a living space are all becoming more popular. Changing lifestyles require more multi-functional rooms as more of us work from home and entertain from home more often.”
He added that Easter and summer were the busiest time for DIY stores as people tend to take the opportunity of good weather to do up their gardens and embark on a few home improvements.
