Mark Davis, managing director of Tesco Property Market, said private selling is becoming increasingly popular. Citing a recent survey, Mr Davis said a “phenomenal” amount of mortgage holders would make use of the service.
Indeed, a poll by ICM found that 57 per cent of homeowners would be at least ‘quite likely’ to want to sell their property privately. Davis added that people are increasingly “becoming their own travel agent”, through booking holidays themselves, and that this could be indicative of a wider trend.
Buying a house is a big transaction, Davis said, adding that this is why solicitors and conveyancers are involved. But he added that ultimately “It’s about two parties agreeing a deal and people are perfectly capable of doing this themselves.”
