FirstRungNow stated that although looking after a property would cost money, it would help buyers protect and enhance their investment.
The firm suggested that first-time buyers seek advice from friends and family regarding the maintenance of their house.
Helen Adams, managing director of FirstRungNow, highlighted roofs, chimneys and wooden window frames as features that should be looked after, adding that the boiler would need to be serviced annually.
She commented; “These costs can all mount up and should be taken into consideration when looking at budgeting after moving in.”
According to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, inquiries from first-time buyers fell last month, partly due to increasing interest rates.
The Bank of England recently voted to keep the cost of borrowing on hold at 5.75 per cent, although many economists have predicted that it will reach the six per cent mark before the end of the year.
