Simply HIP stated that although August was traditionally a quiet month for estate agents, the number of orders for Hips was higher than expected.
However, the firm said this was the case only among people who had homes with at least four bedrooms, as those with fewer rooms were not yet obliged to get Hips.
Ashley King, managing director of Simply HIP, commented: “People are taking the view that ‘I don’t need a Hip and my agents aren’t advising me to get a Hip’.”
He added that although many estate agents were not recommending Hips because they did not think the scheme would be fully implemented, many had accepted that they were here to stay.
The government recently announced that the Hip scheme will extended to include properties with at least three bedrooms from September 10th.
