Conservatives are said to add a pledge to extend the Right to Buy scheme to 2.5 million housing association tenants to their election manifesto.
An expansion of the scheme would be a big blow to rural communities, according to Hastoe Group, which specialises in affordable rural housing.
The Right to Buy is one of the reasons that rural communities currently have so little social housing available (12 per cent compared to 19 per cent in urban environments), Hastoe Group states.
