A Bedfordshire couple in their 20s have taken a step up on the property ladder using the government’s Help to Buy scheme.
David Billington and Jody Benson, both from Wootton, moved from a one bedroom coach house at De Balliol Chase, in Kempston, to a three bedroom house at Cygnet Mews, also in Kempston, last year, and have now settled in with Freddie and Bruno, their two dachshunds.
David, a 27-year-old Fleet Quality Controller, said, “We really wanted to stay in the same area, as all our friends and family are here, we just decided to upscale. As it happens this was the right time, the right development and the right house for us.
The couple were delighted to discover that they could use Help to Buy to buy their Helmsley house type, even though David had already used the popular scheme to buy his first home a year before.
“Buying a new home means there’s a lot of schemes to help you,” enthused Jody, a 23-year-old Warehouse Operative, “and it also means that we could design our own kitchen and choose our flooring before it had even been built.”
Alison Raine, Sales director for Barratt Homes Northampton, said, “Even if you’ve used Help to Buy in the past you can still use it again to take your second step on the property ladder – and beyond – just like David and Jody have done.”
Barratt Homes sold the couple both their properties.
