Whose job is it to keep chasing my conveyancing solicitor – my estate agent or me? I would also like to know how do I stand if I am not happy with the service I am receiving?
Mark’s Answer
As part of your solicitor’s retainer, they should keep you updated on a regular basis with the progress of the transaction, even if it is only to let you know that there has been no further progress since the last update.
The solicitor should also keep the estate agent updated on how the transaction is progressing so that all parties involved in the transaction are aware.
If you are not happy with the service that is being provided, the firm’s complaints procedure should be set out in the firm’s letter of engagement which must be provided to you before the firm can be instructed to act on your behalf.
This will explain how you can make a formal complaint to the firm and who the point of contact is for raising any concerns. The firm should also provide you will their complaints procedure at the outset of the transaction.
