A survey by property portal ezylet.co.uk found that landlords are called out to an average of four property maintenance incidents for each of their properties every year.
With a residential letting property requiring up to 72 working hours per year – the equivalent of nine eight-hour working days – it can prove time consuming for landlords with multiple properties.
Myak Homberger, marketing director at the firm, said: “In recent years, buy-to-let property has been seen as a viable and profitable investment, however many landlords are starting to realise that letting property has hidden costs and stresses.”
While people are often aware of the problems related to finding suitable tenants, the research also showed that finding reliable contractors to repair damage can be a “struggle”, he added.
The Council of Mortgage Lenders recently claimed that the UK’s buy-to-let market was “buoyant”.
