Potential buy-to-let investors take heed – it seems that more and more people who are looking for places to rent are turning to the internet.
A spokesperson for room rental website spareroom.co.uk said that it has seen a 50 per cent increase in the number of visitors to its site since October, and that landlords could do well to advertise their property online.

Reasons behind the huge leap in online house hunters are said to be the increased cost of living which is forcing more people to rent property, and the fact that many homeowners are having to rent out rooms in their property to pay off their mortgages.
Matt Hutchinson said of the recent trend: “It is much easier to get the information out via a website. When I moved to London ten years ago there was Loot and places had often gone by the time you got there, there was not much information you could get there.
“Now people can upload a photo or a video and a detailed description of the area and the property. It is much easier to connect the right person with the right property.”

His comments come after a survey by Gumtree.com revealed that the room-to-let market has grown rapidly over the last few months.
Since October, Gumtree recorded a 38 per cent increase in ‘room to rent’ flat-share listings on its website.
