Personality has beaten professional expertise in a new poll conducted by comparison website Gocompare.com, which let consumers choose their favourite property show host.
The nation’s favourite property show presenter has very little experience of building, renovating or designing at all, and is equally at home hosting a quiz show as presenting the BBC’s DIY SOS. Step forward UK viewers’ favourite property show frontman, Nick Knowles.
Only just shaded into second place is the high-brow host of Chanel 4’s Grand Designs, Kevin McCloud MBE. In third place it’s Phil Spencer of Location, Location, Location, beating his co-host Kirstie Allsopp who finished in fifth place. Other presenters in the Top 10 list include George Clarke (of the eponymous George Clarke’sAmazing Spaces), Lucy Alexander (Homes Under the Hammer) and Sarah Beeny (Property Ladder).
The BBC’s Changing Rooms pioneered the format of the property makeover show and paved the way for the vast selection of home decorating, home renovating, homebuying and homebuilding programmes we enjoy today. However, the show’s original run came to an end 11 years ago, which could explain why Linda Barker and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen placed ninth and tenth respectively.
