Brits think they need to visit eight homes before choosing the right one, with fewer than one in 10 home hunters claiming they would be happy to buy the first house they saw, according to new research from E.ON.
Of those surveyed, most thought it would take two to three months deciding on the right home for them (32 per cent) but people tended to know quickly when they had found ‘the one’, with over half knowing during or immediately after the first viewing (59 per cent).
Three per cent of people said they knew as soon as they became aware of the property being on the market.
The energy company’s survey of over 2,000 adults also found location ranked highest when making a property purchase (74 per cent), followed by mortgage costs (56 per cent), size (53 per cent) and the amount of work needed on a property (40 per cent).
Almost two-third wanted to buy their first home in their 20’s (62 per cent), with an ambitious 29 per cent setting their minds on being home owners by the age of 19.
But the reality of purchasing is less positive, as over half (53 per cent) of non-home owning adults feared they’d never get on the property ladder. Lack of funds, ignorance about the property market and a wish to avoid getting financially tied down were cited as the top barriers to purchase.
