The redevelopment of the iconic former BBC headquarters in London will be available to interested buyers this autumn, according to a news report.
While we would have to wait till next spring for the official launch of the whole complex, the first 450 flats will be up for preliminary purchase in September, City A.M. reported yesterday.
Home buyers keen on owning a piece of TV history will get the chance to do that at the planned preview launch. The prices for a one-bedroom flat will start from around £500,000.
Thousands of interested buyers are reported to have already registered for the preview in the autumn.
When completed, the revamped 14-acre site in White City will comprise 350,000 sq ft of offices, a hotel, restaurants and 950 new homes, of which 142 affordable flats, the report says. There will be six penthouses at the top of the BBC Television Centre that are expected to cost around £7 million.
The flats offered for sale at the preview in September will be completed in 2017.
Original features
Property developer Stanhope plc which bought the BBC TV Centre in the summer of 2012 has promised to keep some of the building’s original features such as the ‘doughnut’-shaped central block of the centre and the atomic dot wall.
The centre housed the BBC headquarters for 53 years, from 1960 to 2013. The BBC has meanwhile moved into a new head office in the capital.
Most flats likely to be bought by Londoners
Speaking to City A.M., Stanhope’s managing director Alistair Shaw, said the new homes are more likely to be purchased by London-based buyers rather than foreign investors.
I would like to register for one bedroom and two bedroom apartments in BBC headquarters building from 5th floor upwards please. If possible south facing garden would be great
Send me the details of those properties as soon as possible
