The cost of living is a good deal cheaper in foreign countries, but upping sticks and leaving is certainly a big step for the average twenty-something looking to secure a mortgage on their first home. Research has shown that some would even travel as far as Australia and New Zealand to save their pennies.

Spain was the top choice with more than two in five people indicating that they would live there, although a fifth of all adults asked would consider a move to Eastern Europe.
While 25 per cent would consider drastic steps such as moving to other countries, another 24 per cent would relocate to a cheaper part of the country for the same reason.
The younger generations are the most mobile as they have less ties to any particular area, especially considering that most dont own property.

On the positive side though, there has been an increase in the average amount saved by those putting regular sums aside to £184.32 over the past three months. However the overall amount of regular savers has fallen to 43 per cent.
