Estate agent Burton & Co said that although prices in the area were considerable lower than in other parts of the country, the likelihood of some FTBs getting on the property ladder was being hit by other factors.

For example, the firm said that salaries in Lincoln were “extremely low”, meaning that while prices were fairly cheap when compared to the south of England, some properties were still unaffordable.
Linda McGuirk, a spokesperson from Burton & Co said: “People down south laugh, but most people are on £10,000 or £12,000 a year, buying a property is still unachievable for a lot of people.”

She added that many people were still on the minimum wage, making properties such as terraced houses unaffordable.
According to the Land Registry, house prices in Lincolnshire have risen by 6.9 per cent in the last year, with the average property now costing £147,087.
