Nationwide is re-launching its independent and interactive Green Home Guide, endorsed by both the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and Kevin McCloud, presenter of TV’s Grand Designs and founder of sustainable housing scheme (HAB Housing). The Guide has been updated with the latest information about how to create a sustainable home, including the Government’s Green Deal scheme.
The Green Home Guide is a comprehensive introduction to living a more sustainable existence at home. It provides information on how to make carbon and energy saving changes that could save money and help the environment at the same time. It follows the familiar step-by-step format also used for our suite of Home and Money Guides and is accessible on your PC, smartphone, tablet or downloadable PDF version.
The guide is independent and free of Nationwide’s products or services. Its detailed word glossary will help make sense of the jargon and it hosts a comprehensive useful contacts list for links to further information. http://www.nationwideeducation.co.uk/sustainability-education/green-guides-suite/green-guide/index.php
Grand Designs presenter Kevin McCloud commented on the Guide: “Houses are very inefficient machines. They’re badly put together, hard to heat and badly designed. With 27 per cent of the UK’s overall CO2 emissions coming from our homes, reducing energy in our houses is a given. So full marks to Nationwide for coming up with this user-friendly interactive Green Home Guide which shows you how to reduce your carbon footprint, save on household bills and live a more sustainable life.”
The Government Department of Energy and Climate Change also endorsed the Guide, saying: “DECC welcomes Nationwide’s entry into the green mortgage market and we hope it encourages their customers to take up energy efficient home improvements. We are also very pleased that Nationwide will be including information about the Green Deal in their Green Home Guide.”
In addition, Nationwide Building Society launched its own further borrowing product in February 2013, exclusively available to customers wanting to improve the energy efficiency of their existing home – Green Additional Borrowing. By opting for Green Additional borrowing customers have an open market choice of suppliers giving them the opportunity to select a national brand or a local firm, whichever they prefer.
