The vast majority (93 per cent) of adults rate a clean and tidy, or well maintained, home as an essential quality to have in a partner. Twice as many respondents to Propertyfinder.coms survey also declared that they preferred a cosy home to a clean one, although fashion and tastefully done interior decorating trumps size hands down.
Of those moving in with their loved one, 71 per cent of those aged between 18-25 have already taken the plunge, rising to 89 per cent by the time they reach 30. Nearly 50 per cent of these couples moved in together after knowing each other for barely 9 months, with majority moving out of rented accommodation to get on the housing ladder together.
However, men and women look for very different qualities when choosing a home, with 22 per cent more men than women rating a large home as an essential quality.
Deirdre OReilly, head of consumer marketing at Propertyfinder.com comments: The qualities people look for in a home closely mirror what one would assume are peoples immediate wants in a partner. Is it any surprise that men place far more importance on size and wealth than women do?!
With house prices and interest rates so high now, buying with a partner is often the only way to make a home purchase affordable and people are moving in together after only short periods of knowing one another in order to get on the property ladder perhaps the MPC has been playing cupid with all the recent rate rises!
