Jason Orme, editor of Homebuilding & Renovating magazine, stated that although small-scale renovation work is often covered by existing home insurance, more extensive work could require a specialist policy.
He said this would probably be the case if work was being carried out that would require the homeowner to move out for a period of time, advising: “If you’re doing a loft conversion or a small extension, that tends to be something that you can get specialist small-level insurance for.”
This follows comments from SmartNewHomes, which stated that large home improvements such as a conservatory could help boost the value of properties. By creating an extra room in this way, homeowners could increase both the size of their residence alongside the market value of their home.
