When compared to December 2005, initial reports showed that claims were down by as much as 30 per cent this Christmas, and households were altogether less likely to be burgled during Christmas week than during an average week at any other point in the year.
Peter Horton, operations director of general insurance at Liverpool Victoria says: The presence of more people at home during the holiday season may have deterred burglars, as will any extra security measures taken by householders to protect the valuable presents under the tree.
