The awards recognise the very best mortgage and homebuying businesses in the UK – but they wouldn’t exist without the vital input from consumers.
This year the winners and highly commended in each category were revealed at a presentation in London’s OXO2. Over 200 brokers, lenders, insurers, conveyancers, surveyors and other professionals joined the celebration to find out if they had been crowned overall winners.
The business which received the most votes in each category secured the coveted what MORTGAGE Award. There were also two highly commended in all the categories.
But even those who made the shortlist – and therefore received a large number of nominations in the first stage of the selection process – were applauded for their sterling efforts in a really tough year for the mortgage industry.
Being vouched for by happy customers is the ultimate accolade for our winners, highly commended and finalists. And so many of them wanted to send their thanks to you for voting.
Among them was first-time winner Meet Margo – a tech-first mortgage brokerage, which aims to close the gender housing gap.
Claire Towe, its co-founder, said: “We’re delighted to pick up the what MORTGAGE award for ‘Best Mortgage Industry Newcomer’.
“As a young company in our second year of trading, winning this award in a room full of established industry players is truly humbling.
“Not only is this a wonderful acknowledgement of our team’s efforts but it fuels our drive to keep innovating and further empowers our mission to help more women in homeownership.”
One of those established industry players is L&C mortgages, which picked up two awards – Best Mortgage Broker (40 advisers and Over) and Best Broker Website.

David Hollingworth, associate director, communications, for L&C, said: “We’re always trying to improve the service we provide to customers and constantly challenge ourselves to do better in an increasingly complex mortgage market.
“We’re therefore absolutely delighted to be named as winners. That is made all the more special as it’s voted for by what Mortgage readers and customers. It’s great for all the hard work of the team to be recognised.”
And another was 14-times winner Loans Warehouse which won Best Second Mortgage Broker and Best Broker Customer Service.
Matt Tristram, co-founder and director of Loans Warehouse, said: “Recognition is always great for the hard work the team put in, we say we don’t need it but of course we love it.
“The what MORTGAGE Awards has always had a special place at Loans Warehouse as it’s the only awards that are voted for by consumers, we’ve been amazingly privileged to have received recognition from what MORTGAGE Awards for an incredible 14 years.
“When you win your first award, you’re elated, but then the pressure builds to retain it, so for us to have been voted the Best Second Charge Broker for 14 years straight and remain at the top of our field is an amazing achievement.”
