Last night winners of the What Mortgage Awards 2018 gathered at an informal event in London to collect their trophies.
What Mortgage would like to thank everyone who took the time to vote in our awards. The input by our website visitors is very much appreciated, not just by us, but by the winners, highly commended and shortlisted firms.
Winners ranged from the big high street banks to building societies and specialist lenders. There were also awards for equity release specialists, brokers, insurers, service providers and websites.

Halifax was voted as the Best Overall Lender and NatWest as the Best National Bank. The building society winners were Skipton (national), Newcastle (regional), Harpenden (local) and Principality (customer service).
Other lender winners were Tesco Bank (direct lender), Digital Mortgages by Atom Bank (online lender) and Santander (intermediary lender), Halifax (first-time buyers).
Winners of the product awards were Bank of Ireland (fixed rate) and Furness Building Society (variable rate), Santander (remortgage and large loans) and Barclays (offset mortgage).
Specialist areas of mortgage lending were won by Pepper Money, Kensington Mortgages (buy-to-let), Shawbrook Bank (bridging), Leeds Building Society (shared ownership), Family Building Society (guarantor/assisted mortgage), Aviva (equity release) and United Trust Bank (second charge).
Mortgage brokers were also award winners including L&C, Mortgages for Business, The Buy to Let Broker, Equity Release Supermarket, Bower Retirement, Key Retirement and Loans Warehouse.
Other service provider winners were Legal & General Surveying Services and Countrywide Conveyancing Services. While the Best Comparison Site for Mortgages went to money.co.uk
Insurance winners were Sainsbury’s Bank (home), Direct Line (life and landlord), Legal & General (financial protection).
