Instead people are investing in bricks and mortar in the hope that it will see them through. A staggering 89 per cent of Brits spend more in home improvements at an average £1,768 each year, than they contribute to their pension only £18 per week or £932.

In addition to this, six out of ten Brits would trust their tradesmans opinion over that of a qualified Financial Adviser when it comes to getting the maximum return on their investment.
