In 2005 the country was ranked as the second most affordable place to buy a house, yet all this changed in 2006 and the dramatic levels of growth mean that it is now the seventh most expensive place to buy a new home. The average property price in Scotland rose by 13 per cent last year which proved to be the highest annual increase after that of London.
The managing director of SmartNewHomes.com, David Bexon, commented: The rapidly growing prices in Scotland now rival those traditionally exclusive to the South of England. Edinburgh and Glasgow have spearheaded this growth and towns such as Stirling now boast some of the most expensive new homes in Scotland.
Key towns with strong economic growth and a considerable number of detached properties have significantly impacted on Scotlands recent success, and I would predict prices to continue to rise in 2007.
