Research by First Active mortgages shows that six in ten people live within half an hour of their immediate families.
The research also revealed that men find it harder to cut the apron strings with 4.4 million men choosing to live just five minutesÂ’ away from their family, compared to just 3.5 million women.
Family ties are a priority over work for Brits, with a third of us living over half an hour away from the office and 3.5 million living over an hour away, with men choosing to live further way from the office than women.
The survey also revealed that 2 million people in the UK are now choosing to work from home, particularly those in the Midlands and Wales.

The fact that two million people now work from home is quite staggering and the issue of work-life balance and quality of life creeps into the equation.
“Over a third of people live over half an hour away from the office, perhaps sacrificing a shorter travel time for living in a property in a more desirable area.”
